Tim's Favorite Models
What is your favorite attraction at LEGOLAND® California?
The Dragon roller coaster… I like all the models inside the castle and I really like the dragon… but I also like the great ride on the coaster.
What is your favorite model that you’ve worked on in the Park?
The grizzly bear with the raccoon on his head in Wild Woods Golf is my favorite because I designed it.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Building a prototype of a large model and not knowing what is ten, twenty, or a hundred rows above where I’m currently building can be very difficult.
What is the best thing about working at LEGOLAND California?
The ability to inspire children on a daily basis is a rare gift.
Do you work with LEGO when you’re at home?
No
How many bricks would you guess that you own?
Definitely more than five
What was the first LEGO set you owned and how old were you when you received it?
It must have been one of the late seventies moon base sets. Those were very inspiring to me as a child of eight or nine.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I wanted to be a LEGO Model designer… I told my mother when I was ten that’s what I wanted to be. I forgot about that dream when I got into high school but remembered again in college as an art major.
How long have you been creating with LEGO?
Since I was seven or eight years old.
What creation are you the most proud of?
A model that has come to be known around here as the “Welcome” model. It is like an island version of LEGOLAND, that incorporates some of the themes and ride vehicles from around the park as well as the giant letters from the entrance of the park to say “welcome”.
What would you like to build in LEGO that you haven’t already?
A very large space ship of my own design… this was my favorite thing to build as a child. I would also like to build a scale model of an old time cathedral from Europe.
What qualities do you think would make a great model builder?
Being spatial oriented is a must and having a good sense of humor and patience.
What tips could you give to applicants on the model builder search?
Practice sculptural forms with LEGO pieces
Name some of your hobbies other than creating with LEGO.
Clay sculpture, Camping, Snow skiing, Billiards, Motorcycling
